The ViroPharma Story
In 1994, a small team of entrepreneurial scientists founded ViroPharma, giving birth to their vision of what a pharmaceutical company should be: a combination of good science, good people, and a value based culture that is tangible throughout the organization.
Although many of the faces are different today, that original dream is still alive, and ViroPharma – though evolving - continues to reflect that vision. The company is poised for new levels of growth as we commercialize important life saving products; expand our presence into European markets; and work to develop novel treatment paradigms for C. difficile, diseases in which C1 esterase inhibitor is implicated as an important regulatory protein, and other serious diseases.
Significant diseases such as these pose a global menace regardless of age, gender, life style, ethnic background or socioeconomic status. Often, these diseases grow in incidence and prevalence, often due to limited treatment options, taking advantage of changing human conditions, including overpopulation, inadequate sanitation, and over reliance on antibiotics, and cause a wide spectrum of disease manifestations. ViroPharma is dedicated to providing new treatment options to potentially address these types of great unmet medical needs: serious diseases, with limited – if any – treatment options.
From identifying novel therapeutic opportunities to working with physician specialists to ensure the safety of patients with severe diseases, ViroPharma is living up to the promise made by its founders. Today’s efforts lead to tomorrow’s cures.
